China is home to more than 55,000 Indian nationals, including more than 20,000 students. Many students and professionals returned to India after the Covid-19 outbreak and have not been able to return to China.
India asked China on Thursday to issue Visas to Indian nationals who comply with all the requirements established by Beijing to travel, including vaccination with Jabs made in Chinese, so they can return to their studies or jobs.
The Government is also taking measures to protect the interests of Indian nationals who work or study abroad, but they have stuck in the country due to the travel restrictions related to Covid-19, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said a weekly informative session. The problems faced by these nationals are being addressed with the governments concerned, he said.
In the case of China, Bagchi noted that Indian citizens have not been able to travel back to resume their work or studies since November of last year, although Chinese citizens can travel to India despite the absence of direct connectivity .
“However, for Indian nationals, trips to China have not been possible since last November, since the Chinese side had suspended the existing visas. In March of this year, the Chinese Embassy issued a notification on the facilitation of visas for Those who take Chinese vaccines, “Bagchi said.
“It is understood that several Indian citizens have requested Chinese visas after vaccining themselves in this way, but have not yet been issued visas. Since these Indian citizens have apparently complied with the requirements established by the Chinese side, we hope that the Chinese Embassy may issue them Visas soon, “he said.
The Indian authorities have come in contact with Chinese counterparts to look for “early resumption of travel” by Indian citizens to China, especially for those who work or study there, he added.
“While we recognize the need to guarantee security and strictly follow the protocols related to Covid, essential bidirectional trips must be facilitated, especially by maintaining the fact that Chinese citizens can travel to India,” Bagchi said.
According to official data, China is home to more than 55,000 Indian nationals, including more than 20,000 students. Many students and professionals returned to India after the Covid-19 outbreak and have not been able to return to China.
In the case of other countries, the Government is aware of the challenges facing indigenous students who can not return to continue their studies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in line with the Government’s priorities, has been “actively working to protect the interests of Indians who reside abroad, either for education, employment or other reasons,” he added.
“We have been taking this issue with the governments interested in the priority, we have also requested students who face difficulties in contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said, referring to a recent initiative launched to gather details of said Students across the country.
Responding to a separate question about the problems faced by the Indians who study or work abroad that have been vaccinated with the Covaxin Jab that has not yet been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), Bagchi said: “We are Aware that Bharat Biotech has searched for the use of Emergency List of Covaxin. We hope that this process of obtaining this approval is completed at an early date. “
