Government Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a decision to provide 27 percent reservations for other backtheats (OBC) and 10 percent reservations for more economically weaker parts (EWS) in the All India Quota (AIQ) scheme for medical and graduate / dental courses (MBBS / MD / MS / Diploma / BDS / MDS) from the current academic year 2021-22 and so on.
This was decided by PM Modi at a meeting held on July 26, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
Call this ‘Landmark Decree’, the Prime Minister said that this would greatly help thousands of youth every year get a better chance and create a new paradigm of social justice in this country.
This decision will benefit every year nearly 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2,500 OBC students
This decision will benefit every year nearly 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2,500 OBC students in post-graduation and also around 550 EWS students in MBBS and around 1,000 EWS students in post-graduation.
The Ministry of Health said in a statement that this decision was synchronized with significant reforms carried out in the field of medical education since 2014.
Over the past six years, the MBBS seat in this country has increased by 56 percent from 54,348 seats in 2014 to 84,649 seats in 2020. Likewise, the number of PG seats increased by 80 percent from 30,191 seats by 2020.275.
During the same period, 179 new medical colleges have been established and now this country has 558 (269 and private sector 269) medical colleges.
What is the AIQ scheme?
The All India Quota (AIQ) scheme was introduced in 1986 under the Supreme Court’s instructions to provide domicile-free performance-based opportunities to students from any country to aspire to study in medical colleges located in other countries located in other countries.
All Indian quota consists of 15 percent of the total available ug seats and 50% of total PG seats available at the government medical college.
Initially, there was no reservation in the AIQ scheme until 2007. In 2007, the Supreme Court introduced a 15 percent reservation for the scheduled caste (SCS) and 7.5 percent for tribes scheduled in the AIQ scheme.
When the Central Education Institution (reservation entered) acted effectively in 2007 providing a 27 percent uniform reservation for OBC, the same thing was implemented in all central education institutions namely. Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Harding Medical College, Muslim University of Aligarh and Universitas Banaras Hindu.
However, this is not expanded to the AIQ chair from medical and state teeth colleges. So this announcement will benefit all students.
Who will benefit?
The Ministry of Health said in a statement that OBC students from all over the country will now be able to benefit from this reservation in the AIQ scheme to compete for seats in any country.
Being a central scheme, the OBC center list must be used for this booking. About 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2500 on post-graduates will benefit through this reservation.
To provide benefits to students included in the EWS category in revenue to higher education institutions, the constitutional amendment is carried out in 2019 which allows the provisions of the 10 percent reservation for the EWS category.
Thus, seats in medical / dental colleges have increased for two years in 2019-20 and 2020-21 to accommodate 10 percent additional EWS reservations so that the total number of seats available for the category do not continue to reduce.
However, in the AIQ seat, this benefit has not been extended so far. Therefore, along with a 27 percent reservation for OBC, a 10% reservation for EWS is also expanded in the AIQ seat for all medical / medical / postgraduate programs from the current academic year 2021-22.
It will benefit every year around 550 EWS students for MBBS and around 1,000 EWS students for PG medical courses, the Ministry of Health said.
