On the first day of deliberations, the Congressional Steering Committee unanimously decided not to hold elections for the CWC and authorized the party leader to nominate his members.
The decision was taken at a steering committee meeting chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge, whom members of the Gandhi family had left.
The first party committee meeting was held later in the day, attended by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, shortly after their arrival here late Friday afternoon. The assembly discussed six resolutions to be adopted during the session.
The session, held against the backdrop of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and hailed as a success by the party, brings together around 15,000 delegates.
