Voicing concerns over the lack of “measurable progress” by Sri Lanka about its commitment to political solutions for ethnic problems, India on Monday calls for “direct and credible actions” for full implementation of the 13th amendment and holding the earliest provincial council elections “in the country The island hit by a crisis.
During an interactive dialogue on OHCHR reports on promoting reconciliation, accountability, and human rights in Sri Lanka in the 5th session of the UN Human Rights Council, India said they always believe in the state responsibility for the promotion and protection of constructive international rights and dialogue and cooperation guided by the principles of the UN Charter.
Speaking in the dialogue, an Indian representative who recorded concerns about the lack of “measurable progress” by the Sri Lanka government about their commitment to political solutions for ethnic problems- through full implementation of the 13th amendments .
“India’s consistent view of peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka has been for political resolution in the united Sri Lanka framework, ensuring justice, peace, equality and dignity for Tamil Sri Lanka people,” said India Diplomat.
The current crisis in Sri Lanka has shown economic limitations that are driven by debt and their impact on living standards, the official said.
“It is for the best interests of Sri Lanka to build the capacity of its citizens and work towards their empowerment, where the devolution of power to the grassroots level is a prerequisite,” said Indian Diplomat.
