US Attorney General Merrick Garland said on Thursday that he had “personally agreed to” the search for Donald Trump’s house in Florida, and condemned the “baseless attack” on the FBI after an unprecedented action against a former president.
Garland did not explain the reason for the search, but emphasized there was a “possible cause” and said he had asked the court to make this case document public.
“I personally approve the decision to find a search warrant on this matter,” he told reporters. “The department does not make such decisions lightly.”
The extraordinary FBI attack this week at the residence of Trump Mar-A-Lgo has triggered a political storm in a country that has been bitter and came when he weighed other white buildings.
The leading Republican party has gathered around the former president, who did not attend when the attack occurred.
Former Vice President Trump Mike Pence, 2024 rival potential, stated “deep concern” and said the attack slapped “alignments” by the Department of Justice.
Garland criticized “an unfounded attack on the professionalism of the FBI and agents and prosecutors of the Department of Justice.”
Since leaving the office, Trump remains the most dividing figure -the country and the strength in the Republican party, continued to sow falms that he really won the 2020 vote.
Trump has also condemned the attack as political motivation and “weapons” from the Department of Justice.
“Nothing like this has happened to the previous President of the United States,” Trump said.
Only a few days after the 76 -year -old FBI operation was questioned for four hours on Wednesday at the Manhattan Letitia James office, the Attorney General for New York, who was investigating the business practice of the Trump organization.
The US media reported that Trump asked his legal rights not to answer questions more than 400 times during the deposition of alleged fraud in his family’s real estate business.
James suspects Trump’s organization cheating exaggerates the value of real estate property when applying for a bank loan, while reducing them with tax authorities to pay fewer taxes.
Trump says he “has no choice” but to ask for the fifth amendment – which allows individuals to remain silent under the question – during the deposition.
“I refuse to answer questions based on rights and privileges given to every citizen under the United States constitution,” he said in a statement.
Trump also faced intense legal supervision of his efforts to cancel the 2020 election results and during the January 6 attack on the US capitol by his supporters.
Garland has been repeatedly encouraged whether the Department of Justice is building a case against Trump on the Capitol riots.
More than 850 people have been arrested in connection with the 2021 attack on the congress, which occurred after Trump delivered a fiery speech to his supporters near the White House mistakenly claiming that the election was “stolen.”
Trump was impeached for the second time historic by the DPR after the Capitol riots – he was accused of inciting a rebellion – but was released by the senate.
