The day after India officially asked the European Union member countries to enter Covishield and Covaxin in their exception list for passports, Switzerland and seven European Union countries have added Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines produced by the Serum Institute.
Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland and Spain are seven UE members who received the Covishield vaccine on Thursday.
The center on Wednesday said that failure to include covishield and Covaxin would force India to apply compulsory quarantine rules for UE citizens.
Urgent member countries to receive a vaccination certificate incurred through the Cowin Portal, Indian authorities say that ‘the effectiveness of the vaccination certification can be passed through Cowin’.
Only four vaccines – Comirnaty of Pfizer / Bontech, Moderna, Vaxzervia by AstraZeneca-Oxford and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen – have been approved by the European Medicine Agency (EMA). Only inoculated with this vaccine will be given a vaccination passport and allowed to travel in the EU during a pandemic.
“Individual member countries have the flexibility to also receive vaccines that have been authorized at the national level or by the World Health Organization,” said the government’s source above to CNN-News18.
In addition, the European Union Ambassador to India and Bhutan Ugo Astuto on Monday said the Covid EU digital certificate was intended to facilitate safe movements that were safe during the pandemic in the EU, but not pre-conditions to travel.
